Advising

UConn Hartford Advisors are working in-person and remotely. Students should note whether the appointment they make with their Advisor is virtual or in-person. In person appointments will take place on the UConn Hartford Campus.   Virtual appointments use WebEx video conference.

There are three ways to meet in WebEx.

1. For video appointments, you need a camera and microphone on your computer/laptop.
2. For audio only appointments, you need a microphone on your computer/laptop.
3. Without computer or internet? You can phone into a meeting. Directions will be included in the invitation.

If you don’t have the necessary equipment to use WebEx, discuss alternatives with your advisor. If you’d prefer to work through email it may take longer and require more preparation. Plan accordingly by contacting your advisor several weeks before you can register.

Advising for Spring 2022 Course Registration

In order to enroll in courses for the Fall 2021 semester, many students need to meet an Advising Requirement. Students with Advising Requirements will have a hold put on their account that will prevent them from being able to enroll in classes.  Students can click here to learn more about where to find this hold and any other holds that might be placed on their account.

Students have two options to meet the advising requirement:

1.) Attend a Group Advising Session (for Sophomores in certain CLAS majors and students interested in competitive admission majors in the Schools of Business and Engineering)

OR

2. Schedule a 1 on 1 Appointment

Frequently Asked Questions

1. When can I register for classes?  A student can register for classes on or after their Enrollment Date as long as they do not have any other Enrollment Holds.

2. Who is my Advisor?  A student can search on the Student Admin System for their Advisor.  Directions can be found here.

3. I am not sure what to major in.  What are some things I can do to help me decide? First off, it is very common for students to be unsure of a major and to change majors (sometimes more than once) while they are at UConn.  Talk to your Academic Advisor, they are here to help you through this decision.  You can also check out various UConn websites including- UConn's The Major Experience and UConn's Undergraduate Catalog to see what majors UConn offers.

If you have an advising or probation hold, your advisor can lift it. Note: Not all holds can be lifted by an academic advisor. Directions on how to check your holds can be found here. If you have a question about a hold, click on the symbol itself (it’s a link) and follow the instructions. If you wait for an appointment with an advisor and they can’t lift your hold, you will have lost valuable time.
